about

After the Psycodaisies had imploded in 1986 Wilf and Graham were fairly happy to let it rest but Paul Gardner was insistent that he wanted to record some drums with the band. He was young and enthusiastic so they obliged. Sometime in 1985 a makeshift studio was set up. The idea was return to their punk roots and do something fast and furious taking inspiration, in part, from 60s psych/beat bands. It would be recorded in mono - Hofner Verithin guitar & drums ‘live’ on one track leaving room for bass on the second track, Wilf’s vocal on the third track and the last track left for sound effects or Wasp synth or Watkins Rapier guitar. Around the time the backing tracks were recorded Wilf had been ‘wowed’ by the Psycopixies - the flautist and violinist pair he had met while they were busking in Yeovil. He asked if they fancied recording on the Daisies new project - they agreed and duly took the Wakes bus to the front room studio in Castle Cary to record some parts on the remaining tape track. A few ‘found’ sound affects and Hind D noises were also added. As a separate project Paul and Graham had been recording a few medievalesque tracks that were then slipped into the mix
The whole thing was assembled and titled ‘Real Crazy Apartment’, after a favourite ‘60s psych track by Winston’s Fumbs. It’s not known how many copies of the finished tape were distributed but it was probably no more than ten copies on re-used Woolworths bargain bucket tapes - each one in a different sleeve individually artworked by Wilf or Graham.
The set was reissued on CD with additional 'out-takes' on The Golden Pathway in 2015.
