about

In Loving Memory was a demo cassette tape of four tracks taken from the Psycodaisies first album ‘Send No Flowers’ in 1984. Ten copies were made with hand coloured covers and sent to indie record labels. The response was promising and the band sent a representative on the train from Somerset for a scheduled meeting with an interested psych label based in St Albans to discuss plans for an album. When he got there the ‘label’ had gone out for the day! This only confirmed the bands worst fears about dealing with the record biz so no demos were never sent again and the Golden Pathway became a proper label in it’s own right.
This latest version of In Loving Memory has been used to offer up historical snippets of the noises made between the end of The Sheds/Squirting Raspberries in 1980 and the release of 'Send No Flowers' in 1984. This group was at times called The Ken Buddhists.
They had a Watkins Rapier guitar, a WEM Copicat and soon acquired a Portastudio, a Boss Dr. Rhythm drum machine and a Wasp synth. With Wilf and Graham at the centre other contributing musicians came and went. Lisa Cozens on vocals, Bastie Beaumont on percussion, Matt on Bass and Hind D providing found noise interludes and interruptions. Live gigs were performed with a mix of personnel doing rehearsed songs and lengthy improvisations.
Elements of what was recorded here were eventually taken forward and used in the 'Send No Flowers' and 'Psychojelly...' tape albums in 1984.
The first three tracks are recordings of rehearsed songs. Daisychain and Rediculous-Wallpaper were long improvisations - edited down for this. Devastation was another long improv that was actually released on the Void Jazz Total Yah! tape compilation in 1983 under the guise of 'The Children Of The White Rose'.
The band never did cover versions but during one recording session in 1982 a guitar riff was hijacked by Wilf and turned into a frail version of ‘No Doves Fly Here’ by The Mob, a song that Wilf loved and had also drawn the record sleeve artwork for - this has never been heard before (and we never asked for War).
