Wilf and Graham were members of punk band The Sheds in the late '70s and founder members of Yeovil band Ken Buddists. They made many experimental soundscapes under the name Hind-D. These were sent as droning demos to local fanzines to illicit disdainful (but very entertaining) reviews in the early '80s.
In late 1983 and early 1984 they walked around Yeovil with a Sanyo portable cassette recorder and captured the sounds of the town - traffic, sirens, roadworks, amusement arcades, the people in shops and the children’s rides outside. They went to Ninesprings, a local park, in an attempt to record each of the nine springs - but failed to find them all. Then to Castle Cary to record the church bells and the school playground nearby, they got the bells but the school was on holiday.
The music backing tracks were recorded 'live' on two tracks of a 4 track Tascam Portastudio in a makeshift studio (Sutton Soundbox) on 29 August 1983 with Bastie on switches, Graham on guitar and using the talents of Matt Cornish (Thatcher On Acid) on bass and Charlie Keen (Jhavangelismo Relic) first on drums then overdubbing keyboards.
The 'found' sounds were woven along with Wilf’s vocals into the tracks and mixed down to strereo reel-to-reel by Bastie in Monitor Studios, Milborne Port from which the cassettes were duplicated.
The finished result was released as a 30 copy limited edition cassette tape with two-colour screenprinted sleeve at a Pulsebeat Club gig in Sherborne on 9th June 1984 entitled Psycodaisies, Send No Flowers, The Golden Pathway Volume 1, a label devised for that release.
The original master tapes are lost so it was digitised re-mixed and mastered from the original 4-track cassette Portastudio tapes and given a limited CD release in 2015. That release contained additional unreleased tracks but omitted the instrumental tape B.side 'Ready-mix'. This 2021 version returns to the 'original' reinstating the Ready-mix. The unreleased tracks and other rarities will be included on a revised Golden Pathway Volume Two 'In Loving Memory'.
